EFIWE INTERVIEW: Meet Alakitan Yetunde - UI's Fast & Rising Female Photographer


Meet Alakitan Yetunde Lateefah, a 200 Level Student of the Department of History, University of Ibadan.


In a exclusive Interview with Unibadan Efiwe, Yetunde talks more about her newly found love, Photography. Read interview below;


Can We Meet You?

Ok. I'm Alakitan Yetunde Lateefah, a 200L Student of the Department of History, Faculty of Arts, University Of Ibadan. 

Tell Us About your Family Background? 

Hmm, where do I start from. I really don't have much to say about myself. Well, am from a family of 4, mum and dad inclusive. I'm the last Child. what more can I say about myself n family... Just ask about anything you need to know about it.



Your Primary and Secondary Education?

Hmmm... I went to many schools. I started my Nursery education from Salvation International Mission School, Awolowo - Bodija way, Ibadan. From there, I went to Unibadan Staff School. 

However I spent a year or two there owing to change in location. After then I completed my primary school education at Dway international school, Apete.

I started my Secondary School education at Dway International College. However, I left for SMART Scehool to complete my Junior secondary school education and for my senior secondary school education, I went to Seed of Life College where I graduated in 2015. 


What Does Photography Mean to You?


Hmm...this is deep. Photography means everything to me. It's helping me express myself without having to face the world. It's helping me meet people as well as interact with them and most importantly I feel am getting to understand Life better.

What do You think makes a memorable Photograph? 

Moments. The first word that came to my mind. The moment in which a picture is taken, I feel makes it memorable. 

What were the difficulties You encountered first starting  photography? 

Uhmmm, they are much oo. First was handling and manipulating the camera. I had more of theoretical knowledge than practical. I was more or less like a clueless girl with a camera. 

Also, I had difficulties in canvassing people to patronize me. At one point in time, I was scared of shooting in open places. Errm......financial difficulties no carry last oo. 

Who are some of your favorite classic photographers, and how did they influence You?

Uhm...well, I don't have anyone in particular. But then I love Kevwe Photography. I love the fact that She's a female and she's so good at photography. I personally love her works.

When You are out shooting—how much of it is instinctual versus planned? 

 Its mostly instinctual.



 How has Social Media played a role in your Photography?

It has played a great role I recently got a client or two through Social Media. Its helping my work reach the world

Why do You take Photos?

I take pictures because I feel like and sometimes to capture nature and moments.

What is the most challenging part about being a photographer for You?

Editing Ni oo. I feel editing is boring and it also takes time. But then, we are managing it. Also, I had issues with colors.

Describe your photographic style? How did you develop your style?

Well, my style actually depends on my mood while shooting...

 What was your scariest moment as a photographer?

The day I shot in Raw formats. I was really scared as the version of the Photoshop I have couldn't convert Raw pictures to JPEG.

Are you trying to tell me that If you are in a Bad mood, your style will be awkward?

Uhm....not really actually. Also, I try not to shoot in a bad mood.

Describe a typical day in the life of Alakitan Yetunde?

Uhm....a typical day in my life is hectic. From classes to shoots (not always oo) and sometimes to edit overnight. 

What is your best photography tip?

The exposure triangle




 In the field, what are your settings?
Aperture,Shutter Speed, ISO, White Balance, Focus, Manual/Auto, Image Format, RAW/JPEG

Hehe...you know almost all in photography. I shoot on manual settings, I balance the aperture, Iso and shutter speed to the atmosphere they fit in, I use AWB and I shoot in JPEG format. 


 How do You educate yourself to take better pictures?

I read ebooks, works of older and senior photographers and sometimes learn new tricks via YouTube videos.

Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?



Ok....this is unedited tho,first I love the environment, and I love her smile. It has this natural feeling I can't explain. It's sweet and simple. The smile ain't crooked.

Aside from Photography, What else are you really good at?

I'm good at causing trouble😃😃... don't mind this oo. Hmm what am I good at? I feel I I'm sometimes good at solving problems.

Any words/advice you have for other photographers/youths? 

Uhmm...well yeah....whatever you are good at doing,do it best.
