Akeju Oluwasegun
.

Hosted by the Union Campus Journalists of the University Of Ibadan, read updates below;

“On independent power supply, the union is incapacitated so there is nothing we can do. We can only put pressure on the management. We can’t force the school management. We can only optimize the present power supply.” - Akeju

“The issue of Porter's harassment. We have to consult the Porter's association And I figure out most students are not familiar with the handbooks when they were given. Concerning the restriction of  female in the hall, it is necessary..” - Hessy

Question: The use of kerosene stove is quite crude..what other alternative will you recommend and why

AKeju: the solution is pushing the school management to allowing the use of gas cooker because it is invisible for us to use the electric cooker because of the expenses

So, the best graduating students in UI is under appreciated. Comment on the ideal report.?

Hessy: Well, we just have to work hand in hand with the alumni to appreciate best graduating students as it stands I'm not okay with the accolades. We have to work with the alumni to increase the accolades... The prizes given are based on legacies. We meet the people given the prizes to review the prizes.

These students should be given scholarships and they should recommended to companies.

With reference to FASSA Hysteria  party saga, what will be the standard of restriction of Social activities in UI?

HESSY: From what he said, I really appreciate that. About the FASSA party, the rules were just hype
Secondly, the hysteria event should be held outside school.

AKEJU: The school has rules on dressing. If you’re going to have a party, then it should be based on the school’s regulations. If you’re going to have a party that is not based on the school’s regulation then it should be done outside school.

How best would you tackle the problem of waste disposal within the University?

HESSY: We just have to organize environmental sanitation every month within the hall. Thank you

Akeju; On ways products on campus... We need to put the management on their toes to fulfill their obligations with waste management. Secondly, the SU could work with waste management companies.

Will you consider upgrading A.W.O. sport facilities?  what do you think should be in place?

Hessy: Yes, I will bring Awo hall facilities. These are what I will do
We have to work.more on what they need in terms of sports. We write to Oyo government and see what they can do to help not only in Awo hall but also in other halls.

Akeju: We could write to sport enthusiasts outside willing to sponsor the projects. First, get the projects running, then give it over to sponsors.

Yes or No, is Jaja clinic understaffed? Provide a solution.

Akeju: Yes.  We could get the management to employ more doctors or interns in the clinic.

Hessy: YES! We will recommend the management o get more staff. Secondly, .. Not all cases are emergency. We can recommend for students to come to Jaja to attend to these.

Speaking of Sponsorship, you are about to sell the market of UI to a sponsor, how will you do it.?

Akeju: We have to leverage on our numbers and show them what they are interested in.

Hessy; Thank you very much
On the issue of sponsorship for every organization, they know that UI have a large number of students.

We need to work on ambassadors
The issue of you gaining more sponsors is that you must be able to present your point...

What will be your order of priority, smart boards, bad roads and inverters?

Akeju: Inverter, Smart board and Bad roads.  We can ask the management and also sponsors to get the inverters and also the smart boards.

Hessy: Inverters and bad roads. We will achieve the first two through the department of maintenance and write to them on how we can maintain them.

There is a massive apathy towards election and political system in UI, how will you access political orientation and participation in UI politics?

Akeju: Presently students are politically apathetic. We have to add value to the student Union so that they will look at student union as something that is giving back to them.

Hessy: I will start with what makes student apathy. Students get orientation in the first day on campus. I will suggest students get oriented on how politics is being done on campus.

What will be your style of leadership, benevolent dictatorship or Democracy?

Akeju: Democracy. This is a student union, everyone is included. We need a system of inclusion which is what democracy is about. For us to project the word unionism, we need the democratic system of government.

Hessy: Democracy, because I want to serve as an experimental leader who will achieve the very best. In which for every people I meet, I must leave a legacy in which my successor will benefit.

There are times were diplomacy will fail. What other tools and feasible means can you use to resolve issues with the management?

Akeju: Lobbying, people outside the system can influence the system and Rational confrontation are the alternatives for diplomacy.

What is Benevolence Dictatorship?

Hessy: Dictatorship is about giving others in a way where you dictate for your cabinet and executive and the  Union
And in order to acheive this we have to make opinion polls and work and in hand with the students.

Of the 7th or 8th Legislative Assembly in Nigeria, which will you prefer the legislative council to model after and why?

Akeju: Seventh because it brought about innovation and the not too young to rule bill that was passed is something we can emulate. They allow for the development of individuals.

In the hypothetical situation where there is a functional judicial arm or a Congress, which will be your choice and why?

Akeju: Congress! Because we get varying perspectives about issues. It gives opportunity for more representation. Judicial council’s decision is still subjected to a congress two it is better to just have a judicial council direct.

There have been instances were the Hall warden has Suspended the Hall Executive council members, what do you think of this and why?

Akeju: I believe they should be having regulated power so as to avoid arbitrary use of power.

There was a new policy released in which quite a number of aspirants were screened out. Do you think the policy is appropriate and why?

Hessy: Thank you very much. It is appropriate and it is inappropriate. It is appropriate because they want to increase the number of intellectuals running for the posts.

It is inappropriate because it came late because most aspirants wouldn't have picked up the form.

Should basic dues be fixed at #2500?  What should be done to Associations that goes above it?

Akeju: Yes, basic dues should be fixed at 2500. The consequences should be a sanction. They should return the excesses back to the students. We call it basic dues, we expect it to be for books and other important things that the students need.

Why do you think the basic dues should be fixed at #2,500.?

Hessy; By the policy, Yes. Punishment. They have to tell us the reason why they do not abide by the rules.or policy. We can start with query first to tell us the reason why they won't abide. As it stands, There is increase in prices, we know that price will still increase.

There have been instances were the Hall warden has Suspended the Hall Executive council members, what do you think of this and why?

Hessy; Because the welfare board and senate consist of the executive council so only the hall warden can not make the decision. Yes. Because it is the hall warden that is in charge of the hall.

Should feminism be about equality or equity?

Hessy; Equality! Their choice. Students who believe in that.

Recent activities have  seen Federal Government put plans to regulate the activities of Social Media by student. As a patriotic Nigerian, what will you do as a Nigerian!

Hessy; Thank you very much. SoCal  media  before it came to Nigeria. It has been used outside Nigeria. I will just advise them to look into ways students use the social media to make money.

There is a persistent decline in quality education in Universities in Nigeria, what do you think is accountable and what solution can you prefer?

Hessy; Well what I just need to really talk about is that. You just need to be creative in terms if technology and telecommunications so as students to know what's really going on in the country both theory and practical.

Akeju; The major problem is that our system has not been adapting to things in the 21st century
We have to encourage schools to go for field work and engage in the practical aspects.

If you were to model your Government after a leader in Nigeria, Buhari or Jonathan?

Hessy; Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Because he's a Democratic leader. Thank you.

Akeju; Jonathan. The price of dollars increased during the tenure of Buhari and we are going through a state of hardship.

There have been cases where the Law enforcement agency(cies) did not comply to the injunctions of the Court. What will you make of it?

Hessy; Well, most organization body like law enforcement, for every approach they take , they will always have their a reason. As it is, they will do more of what benefit them.

Akeju; The reason is because it is impossible to punish a person against the consent of the court. We can only unveil the officers. We can punish the principal officers of the agencies.

What will be the practical factor guiding policies with other tertiary institutions if you are elected as the SU President?

Akeju; The practical factor is the interest of the students of the University of Ibadan at large.

Hessy; In the constitution And as at UI stands, We know its learning and character. And the student union must be able to represent the union.

Your parting words!

Hessy; Before we assume this podium the major  problem we always face  between student and management is conflict. As it stands, let me tell you a story about someone, I will still come back to the parting words...

Akeju; We should come out on the 7th of December in mass to vote and to ensure that the political consciousness is there.

Thank you for staying tuned. Feel free to share with others and kindly share on your prestigious platforms. If posted , kindly give credit to UCJ UI Media Team And Unibadan EFIWE. Thank You.
