The War continued as Students Of various Halls of residences of the University face each other in a return leg at the podium to STAND UP for what they believe in, SPEAK UP so that their voice sounds can be heard or SHUT UP if they aren’t making sense! This led to some punchlines which has been complied by amazing Press Organizations In the premier University, INDY Hall Press,  SMPN and others.

The second speaker of the faculty of science, Toluwalemi Oluwadare steps up to speak on the topic A call for political revolution in Nigeria, necessary?

PUNCHLINES
When a man has headache, do you prescribe the changing of the head?

What is necessary in Nigeria is economic rebuild and reformation and not political revolution

Although political revolution may start peacefully, it will always end dangerously

Nigeria where unity is synonymous to division - Abiodun Oluwadamola (Science)

Political revolution must be regarded as my opponents absence in today's debate, a funny and unnecessary joke.

It is no longer news that political revolution goes hand in hand with violence.

Open their eyes to the truth which can set them free

It is a system which allows people transfer money without a third party. They are not like access which denies our access to Money or GTB which takes our #50 without guaranteeing our trust.

Old things are passing away, all things are becoming new. It is wise to embrace cryptocurrency and be safe

Topic: Cryptocurrency, the future of money

“Money, ego, owo, kudi, cheda, paper, raba, blue face

Will cryptocurrency ultimately become the future of money?

❗The whole bubble of cryptocurrency becoming the future of money is a joke and my opponents are the punchlines

Money must be accepted by all to hold value.

Cryptocurrency is trying to take the world by storm only to ‘X’ men out of their jobs - Adeoye Oluwatoyin (VET MEDICINE)

The second speaker of the Faculty of Technology, Lawal Mubarak steps up to speak in support of the topic Cryptocurrency: the future of money?

2019, 2016, 2014, 2012. You are wondering why I am going back. It's because if you listen to my opponents, that's what we will be doing - Lawal Mubaraq (TECHNOLOGY)

To say that cryptocurrency is the future of money is a miscalculation of reality

If my opponents still come here to say that cryptocurrency is the future of money, tell them we don't want a currency that fluctuates like their CGPA

Cryptocurrency makes it easier to evade tax

Why would anyone want a currency hat disappears, when the only thing that should disappear today is my opponent and their shallow points.

Although they are techites, they have refused to argue like technocrats -
Aweda Bolaji (VET MEDICINE)

As technology phases out old jobs, it creates new ones, so please understand technology before you debate against the Faculty of Technology - Lawal Mubaraq (TECH)

Topic: Artificial intelligence: A progressive future or a danger in waiting?

Artificial Intelligence has a much wider application and it is not just the future but the progressive future

AI, especially robots can help reduce increasing mortality rate in the armed forces

AI is the key to accessibility

As AI is progressing, my opponents are myopic, and if they are not careful it can be chaotic

The fact that tractor was created did not eliminate farm workers
And the fact that computer was created did not eliminate maths - Oreoluwa Samuel (SOCIAL SCIENCES)

AI is a probability based learning process in which computers teach themselves to perform tasks

AI cannot verify the authenticity of the data they receive no matter how illogical they sound - Adeyinka Gold (ARTS)

AI is not just a danger in waiting but a progressive danger in waiting.

What you don’t know might hurt you even without you knowing

With artificial intelligence, it’s possible for anyone to track your movements anytime, anywhere.

Until humans become faultless, our inventions can not be flawless. - Okwudiri Chinacherem (ARTS)

Perhaps the reason AI has not taken over the world is because the intelligence it seeks to imitate is that of my opponent - Adeyinka Gold (ARTS)

LAW VS EDUCATION

Topic: Should history be compulsorily included in the Nigerian pre-tertiary curriculum?

The purpose of education is not just to prepare them for the work force but for work and life.

To successfully teach history, what must be taught is historical thinking.

History not only helps you analyze the past but helps you understand the present to comprehend the future.

If anyone should be against the education of the country, it should not be a faculty dedicated to education but then again it is the faculty of education not the faculty of good education

The rest of the world is moving forward because they understand their past whereas Nigeria is moving in a circle because they don't know where they are coming from - Asudemade Habeebullah (LAW)

History has been known to harbor abortion, negation and omission.

Remember; we are teachers, they are lawyers. It’s not their business.

Our sources of history contradict one another hence it should not be made compulsory - Ayeni Otito-Jesu (EDUCATION)

While history is not important to those in clinical sciences, it was important enough to science for them to create political science.

*JAW WAR 2019*

Speaker: Olanrewaju Moses (LAW)

If young students do not see their history as being important, my opponents would be satisfied but the labours of our heroes past would have been sacrificed

If young students do not see their history as being important, my opponents would be satisfied but the labours of our heroes past would have been sacrificed

How can you learn from history when you have refused to learn history.

As far as history and logic is concerned, our opponents; the educators, are not worthy enough to educate us. - Olanrewaju Moses (LAW)

The fact that you can teach civic education does not qualify you to teach history.

It is said that it takes a lesson to teach a stubborn child, but for these ones, it will take three lessons

Every subject has value but are not all made compulsory because of one thing: Specialization

We from the faculty of Education say that history should not be included in the curriculum but it  can be included in Jaw War because If my opponents lose tonight... This will go down in history - Olanema David (EDUCATION)

No history is accurate that is why it is documented so people can come in the future to learn.

We are lawyers, we know logic. They are teachers, they do not. - Asudemade Habeebulah (LAW)

As we know our pasts, we are getting to know our past wrongs and are exposed to our past wounds.  - Ayeni Otito-Jesu (EDUCATION)

Two judges step up to give comments on the speech errors of the speakers and focusing on delivering content... The chief speaker of the Faculty of Arts (Adeyinka Gold) was specially commended for "Giving us what Public Speaking should be"

The importance of stage management, delivery of facts and modulation in speech was emphasized

The audience was once again encouraged to always keep quiet during speeches to allow the Judges listen to the speakers

Also, the following Constituencies; Alexander Brown Hall, Faculty of Clinical sciences and Faculty of Dentistry literary and debating societies wish to no longer be affiliated with The Literary and Debating Society (TLDS, UI) and will not be participating in the quarter finals round of Jaw War 2019 which they (clinical sciences) are qualified for.

This decision is an unanimous one born out of rigorous thought and evaluation. Despite rumours and stories which may circulate after the release of this notice, we can confidently say that our decision to pull out of TLDS was born out of a desire to pursue our best interests and not out of animosity or rebellion. From now on, we would focus undividedly on building erudite speakers and contributing to making the world a better place.

We acknowledge that Jaw War is a great platform for public speakers which is only getting bigger every year but we are not ashamed to admit that right now, it is not for us. We ask for privacy during this period and would not be granting any interviews, conferences or meetings.

We wish The literary and Debating Society (TLDS, UI) the very best in all her endeavours and the other constituencies competing at Jaw War, a fair and wonderful competition.

For Honour.

The results for tonight are

Science: 57 - WINNER
Clinical Sciences: Nil (Forfeit due to absence)

Social Sciences: 58
Arts: 71.2 - WINNER

Technology: 64.6
Vet Medicine: 69.2 - WINNER

Law: 63.9
Education: 69.6 - WINNER

Best Speaker: Adeyinka Gold (Arts)

Thank you for sticking with us...  Have a good night
