UIDLC OPENS PORTAL FOR 2017/2018 ADMISSIONS
The University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre (DLC) has officially opened the DLC portal for the 2017/2018 admissions exercise. During an interview with the Director, Professor Oyesoji Aremu on the centre's weekly programme: DLC and You on Diamond 101.1 fm, University of Ibadan on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, he noted that commencing the exercise at this time was a promise kept.
He posited that with the 2016/2017 second semester examinations in view, it was apparent that the centre had to commence the exercise. He appreciated the UI Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka for believing in the new administration and giving his kind approval for this commencement.
He noted that in view of the National Universities Commission's (NUC) accreditation and revalidation exercise which was due, the Centre hopes to have four new programmes and five revalidated programmes. This would be in addition to the existing six programmes. These new programmes include: Nursing, Computer Science, Sociology, and History and Diplomatic Studies. While the old programmes which revalidation are being sought are: Guidance and Counseling, Educational Management, Library, Archival and Information Studies, Adult Education, and Statistics.
According to him, once the NUC gives its approval, the Centre would have fifteen programmes by the end of the 2017/2018 academic session. He maintained a positive stance that the Centre would record a higher enrolment in the coming year.
Furthermore, Professor Aremu reassured the public and aspiring learners that the Centre has the capacity to deliver qualitative, accessible and affordable Open and Distance Learning (ODL) education. He emphasised that UIDLC learners were not second class students. He reiterated that certificates given to DLC learners and lecturers on the ODL mode were the same as on the regular mode.
He added that the University of Ibadan procedures were well-entrenched in the Centre's activities. In his words, the only difference was the mode of study which he believed was more flexible and seamless on the ODL mode than the regular mode.
