Olamide, who's vying for the post of the Vice President, Students' Union, University of Ibadan unopposed, talks about the Union, roles of Aluta in a vibrant Unionism and lot more in another edition of #KnowYourAspirants2017 with Oizah of WOUWO. Read Below

Yes, I'm Akanni Olamide Bolade.
Who's Akanni Olamide Bolade?
Akanni Olamide Bolade is a 300 Level Student of the Department of Guidance and Counselling, Faculty of Education.
I'm vying for the post of the Students' Union Vice President, University of Ibadan.
Any previous post(s) held before?
I was the Chairman planning committee for the first intervarsity picnic for the Department of Guidance and Counseling.
I was also appointed Social Director of the Department earlier this year before I resigned.
Why Students' Union Vice President?
I like to service humanity. Well, everyone have their area of interest.
The office will allow my service to humanity reach a wider population at UI level and I will be able to serve people better in that position.
What does UISU mean to you?
The UISU is an organization that bring us all together. A body that makes all a family so our voices can be heard. We are weak as a body but coming together makes us stronger.
What's the role of VP office to vibrant Unionism?
As stated by the constitution, the role of the VP is to assist and advice the President in his duty, deputize in his absence.
And also, serve as the chairman of academic committee in other to enable students excel in their academics and also act as the Chairman of the Students' Union Week.
Asides constitutional role(s) what new or other things are you bringing to the table?
I have a lot of plans which will be revealed on the day of the manifesto day. I will enjoin all Uites to come around and listen to it. Thanks.
You don't have opponent so I feel you can share but if you still feel keeping it covert is your choice. What's Aluta to you?
It's a Struggle to care for the people welfare. It is a platform where people's voice can be heard.
Can you lead Aluta?
Yes. Aluta does not necessarily mean a Violence but it is a struggle so I can lead Aluta.
What are the steps to be taken? If u are to lead a protest?
First of all, you call the Management attention to the problem at hand.
Then you dialogue, when dialogue refuse to work then call for a mediator.
When this refused to work that is when the struggle may involve actions.
Audience - Your plans can't be revealed on manifesto day and most times the plans from the office of the Students' Union vice president is always all about the Students' Union week which is most likely going to fail but what else do you have for Uites apart from that in other to save your Administration if things doesn't work well as planned?
I believe things only fail when they are not probably planned.
What is the role non-violent Aluta to the vibrancy of Students' Unionism?
It's still the same role Aluta is meant to perform which is to speak for people.
And please note that Non aggressive Aluta does not make the Union less vibrant.
As the VP, you are automatically the Chairperson of Academic Committee. How will an average Uite feel the impact of the aforementioned commitee?
We will setup a platform where people who are not financially buoyant to afford their school can get assistance and scholarships will be given to outstanding students.
A proper freshers orientation will be organized for freshers to guide them on how they can mange their academic life with other things on campus and lot more.
