Can We Meet You?

I'm Olagunju Motunrayo, an OND Graduate from The Polytechnic Ibadan, Ibadan. I Studied Banking and Finance and I'm 20-year-old.

Why do you do What you do?

I do what I do because I love what I do. Art is interesting. Its a way I do express my feeling, emotion. I do what I do to also put a smile on people's face.  Its what I have passion for and I love it *smiles*

What are the challenges you face as an Artist?

Time and money. Creating something wonderful in spite of something horrible and also creating with too many constraints.

What inspires you?

The Holy Spirit. I just found drawing fascinating, so i tried it and ended up liking & being good at it, due to the encouragement
from people who saw the potentials in

me.

You came on UE radar after we saw an artwork of Ibadan Priest Of Praise, Babatunmise, which you drew. What was your reason behind the artwork?

Hmmmm! I really like Babatumise. I once attended His program then, He came to my School but wasn't one of his fans.

Did you make an artwork of him just to catch his attention or you are lover of his music?

To be sincere, at first, I had no reason for drawing the humble man. I just felt like but Someone which is my best friend, Abraham Winner encouraged me to and I considered it as a good and nice idea and am so Happy He appreciated it.

Help me tell him I love him. I am also a lover of his new music, Ogo Ola!!! *singing*

What Role does an Artist have in Society?

An artist is one that takes risks, makes changes and always develops new ways just by looking at old trends and shaping them into something amazing.

An Artist is a different breed of human with an understanding of creativity and invention.

What are you working on currently that excites you?

A very big pencil portrait, it's really big. The size is scary but getting interesting as I work on it. *smiles*

How did you manage to cope as an Artist and a Student??

Said it earlier, I studied Banking and Finance so it's a different course entirely, being an artist and a student the same time wasn't easy honestly.

Then was myself, my parents didn't support me then. I do buy art materials with my pocket money, will starve myself because I want to train myself and I want to be good.

I skip lectures at times and go to Art Department to see what they are doing.

Its really not easy, so stressful doing two things at a time but God has been helping me.

Are your parents now in support of you being an Artist?

Yes! They are. Most especially my dad. He love what I am doing. He loves Art same as my mum. They are my No1 Fan!

They love artworks so much and they did encourage me even when I was almost tired of  Drawing. My mum can ask me to draw her every week if possible and my dad is always there, He wonders how I do my works.. It amazes him, they are the Best and I love them. *smiles*

My Mum calls this artwork "Omije Oju Mi"

If there were a magic power you could use in your art making, what would it be?

Hyper Realism works both pencil and painting.. Do you have any for me? *laughs*

Where do you think your creativity comes from?

My Creativity comes from within and from the Brain.

What kind of art is unappealing to you?

None! Because I believe they are all creativity.

Do you feel intimidated being a Female painter?

No! Intimidated bawo? I'm always happy being a star in an Industry mainly dominated by Males. I'm happy with what I do.

Are you in a Relationship?

No.

Where do you see yourself in the next 3-4 Years?

I see myself in the association of young artists giving the highest respect, I see myself being celebrated all over the world not only in Nigeria.

I also intend to bring up young artists, talented People and helping them to actualise their talents, goals and to have my own Gallery.

Any words/advice for others who are reading this interview?

My advice to People reading this Interview is that They should not look down on themselves and never be discouraged by what people say about them.

Look for People that will give you a push and encourage you into achieving your goals. Don't just have friends, Choose your Friends.

To be successful is not easy but I still believe its by choice, Just believe in yourself and Trust in God always.
