The Students' Union, University of Ibadan has released a press statement concerning the Increment rate of Acceptance Fee for Students who have been admitted for the 2016/2017 Session.
The University Management said the newly admitted Students should pay the Sum of N30,000 as Acceptance Fee but the Students Union, University of Ibadan has regarded that amount of N30,000 unacceptable for Students and they demand an immediate response from the University Management.

SPECIAL RELEASE: ₦30,000 ACCEPTANCE FEE UNACCEPTABLE
The attention of the Students' Union has been drawn to the announcement of ₦30,000 acceptance fee to be paid by the newly admitted students of the University of Ibadan by the University Management.
It is important to say at this point that the Students' Union has been working since the time we got the information and we don't believe in lip service to issues as this, we also want to come out with results to show for our actions. It is therefore very imperative to apprise everyone about the actions we've taken and to make some clarifications about our stand on the issue at hand.
The information got to us on Tuesday, 22nd November, 2016 in the evening and immediately the President and the Speaker called the Dean of Students and the Vice Chancellor to ask about the validity of the information. We confirmed and booked a meeting with the Dean the next day. The following day, we met with the Dean and discussed on the issue and made him understand reasons why the incoming students can't pay an astronomical fee of ₦30,000 at a time of the country’s current crippling recession. We also wrote to the Vice Chancellor seeking a redress on this decision, of which we are yet to get a reply to the letter we wrote.
The argument of the management (especially the Student Affairs Division) is that students that have just been given provisional admission are not students of the University yet and our protection rights that bind all students hasn't started covering them. It was also stated by them that the students have only been given provisional admission and that the University may decide to rescind admission decisions. The statement was however condemned by the students leadership immediately.
We see it as total in-sensitiveness and wickedness on the part of the management to take a decision like this at such a time as this when most parents are yet to be paid their salaries and those that get paid get half of their salaries.
In time past, the management has increased acceptance fees and we do not know what the money is used for. We are also of the opinion that increment of acceptance fees will amount to increment of school fees and accommodation fees in the coming session (a point that was vehemently debunked by the management but which we still find very difficult to believe).
We want to know what made the management reached a conclusion of increasing the acceptance fees from ₦20,000 to ₦30,000. We will also be sending a letter to the Senate of the University to seek a redress on the issue.
We have contacted everyone that has ties with the university to speak with the management. Nevertheless, we want a reasonable management that is sensitive and will listen to the yearnings of the people.
We can however assure everyone that we are currently working on this issue irrespective of the fact that time is of the essence.
