EFIWE NEWS: Sigma Club, UI Paints Roads In UI With Zebra Crossing | See Photos


The prestigious Sigma Club on 22nd of October 2016, in a manner of goodwill and a desire to promote pedestrian safety within the university environment, designed zebra crossings on three roads; Lane Road (Theatre Arts junction), Benue Road (Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry junction), and Niger Road (Sultan Bello Hall Junction).

The zebra crossings are for promoting pedestrian welfare and giving priority to the rights of way of pedestrians.
Zebra crossing is a type of pedestrian crossing used in many places around the world. Its distinguishing feature is alternating dark and light stripes on the road surface, resembling the coat of a zebra.

The zebra crossings designed by Sigma Club are characterized by these white stripes alternating black stripes. They are parallel to the flow of traffic.

Sigma Club, well reputed within the university and the outer society, is a socio-philanthropic club founded in 1950, making it the oldest student body in Sub-Saharan Africa. Since the inception of the club, it has striven to elevate the intellectual, social and community life in the university.

This, it achieves by the numerous social events it organizes yearly: Havana Musical Carnival, annual public lecture and its charitable fellowship it extends to its friends. In a similar vein, the club strives to produce disciplined and loyal leaders of integrity.

It is open to all male undergraduates of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan.
The Sigma Chief on behalf of Sigma Club endears all members of the university community to respect the zebra crossings.

Pedestrians are advised to use the crossings. Alike, motorists are advised to respect the pedestrians’ right of way at the various crossings.
