University of Ibadan Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka has assured the Staff Members and Students as well as other Stakeholders of the Institution that various challenges confronting the university will soon be overcome, pleading for more patience, support and understanding.
Speaking at a Press Conference in His Office, Prof. Olayinka who described the various challenges as a reflection of the prevailing economic situation in the country disclosed that His administration was working round the clock to ensure that students return to their classrooms as soon as possible while workers' salaries issue is being addressed with all seriousness.
According to Him, "Senate of the university will meet very soon to appraise the situation and determine the resumption date, while the university is also engaging the parents as part of the way forward. But let me restate that we have not asked the students to return, contrary to some speculations in the social media "
On Workers' salary,
"I have asked Bursar to pay this month's salary despite the shortfall we have from the federal government. The money we received can only pay 92 percent. As I talk to you, the Bursar is in Abuja in Budget Office over this issue and the Education Minister has called the meeting of all Vice Chancellors for this Friday. We are going to discuss all the issues. I am assuring everyone that we shall soon overcome all the challenges"
He recalled that the University had in the past experienced both logistical and financial problems but later overcame, waxing philosophically that this current situation will equally become a thing of the past, as it could be likened to the darkest hour before the dawn.
