As we officially begin the countdown to the Students’ Executive Council elections which is set to hold on the 7th of December, Unibadan EFIWE brings to your screen a quick chat with one of UISU Presidential aspirant, Olofinlade Oluwaseyifunmi popularly known aka Hessy which was hosted by Blessing Odesola Of WOUWO.

Blessing Odesola

Hessy talks about his contributions so far to the Union and plans for Students of the University if he’s elected as the President come December 7th. Read below;

Can We meet you?

My name is Olofinlade Oluwaseyifunmi Ebenezer, a 300 level student of Veterinary medicine, University Of Ibadan.

Who’s Olofinlade Oluwaseyifunmi?

I, Olofinlade Oluwaseyifunmi Ebenezer am a passionate leader with good entrepreneurial  skills. A listener and a voice. I have groomed myself to speak to thousands of people as a Master of Ceremony at various states and events within Nigeria.

An entrepreneur who also has a distinction from Federal College of Animal Health, Ibadan. I am currently running a program in Veterinary Medicine in the University of Ibadan.

What do you have in stall for Uites?

Student development. Basically on academics, welfarism and entrepreneurship

#Campaign Promises are always made year in year out, Mention specific events that point at your ability to effectively execute your promises?

Welfarism: My administration will partner with the University to ensure that the power capacity of the school is increased so that students can have more hours of uninterrupted power supply.

Also, a partnership of the Students’ Union and the university to bring in ride-hailing companies  to help lessen the effects of insufficient tricycles to make life comfortable for students.

In the same vein, we shall also diplomatically advocate that the closing time for the tricycles and cabs be extended to transport people who who by chance have one issue or another to move at night.

Academics: Some of the programmes that I will embark on if elected is the provision of scholarship opportunities for indigent students by bringing on board notable personalities for sponsorship and to ensuring that the university directive that enables students call for their script is implemented.

We shall also advocate for the pasting of results so as to enable students can plan early. Also, reviving the long tradition of students borrowing books from the Kenneth Dike Library and to strengthening and widening the scope of the Peer Assisted Study Scheme (PASS) and the Work Study Scheme to cater for the needs of more students.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP SUMMIT; If elected, my administration will organise periodical entrepreneurship summits to equip student entrepreneurs with soft skills to excel in the outside world.

We will also Organize training programs for various business which students might desire to venture into during their course of study or after graduation.

SECURITY; This being a very sensitive issue, my administration will seek to facilitate the installation of road bumps to minimise road accidents and installment of more street lights for improved security.

Also to canvass for the employment of more security staff into the Campus Security to strengthen the Security Service. In addition to this, attempts would be made to facilitate the stationing of security officers along identified dangerous routes such as the Agric-Vet-Ajibode route, amongst others.

We have seen your plans, quite appealing. However, If and If when elected  in actualisation of your plans diplomacy doesn't work. Are you ready to go radical? What better ways can you go about actualisation of your plans with the school management if dialogue fails?

Hessy: Radicalism is the last resort after all means of reasonable dispute resolution have been exhausted and will be done in agreement with majority of students and not just students at congress meetings. Reasonable means like tabling it before the senate, the council itself, the student representative councils.

You have a TV on instagram shey? @hessy_tv In relations to that what is the rationale behind that TV, going forward how does that make you a better President?

Yes! For business as an entrepreneur and most importantly to show my social skills and my expertise when it comes to entertainment planning and social events. Toshow it success it has placed me in the same room with top personalities in the entertainment industry.

It shows am open minded to all issues and I am not hypocritical person. I say and give it as it is. And that has been one of the problems of our union, leaders fails to speak as it is.

There are a lot of rumours surrounding this election. Especially that most contestants are opportunists. Your contribution so far to the Union and The specific role you played during the  last SU Congress, Protest and Rustication of Union Officers.?

TeamHessy from the Onset was not an opportunist, from the day the union is reinstated we declared our ambition and up to this present hour, we are prosecuting the ambition. As a CBN PRO I mobilized students from CBN to the congress and made sure people i mobilized dutifully participate at the congress as the outcome could have a lasting effect which actually did.

Mr Hessy, The Congress held on a Saturday and Ojo Aderemi was the chief mobilizer from zik hall. Would love an explanation on this?

I sent a broadcast messages to all CBNites platforms and students having tutorials in Zik and independence hall organized by CBN. We did not just write an article to ginger people to come to congress, we took proactive steps one on one and convince them to come to the congress.

In responses to Akeju saying there was not BC from CBN? “There was no BC from CBN. The major BC that came out were the ones that individuals put in their names. Proactive steps were taken by us after a brainstorming meeting we held a night before the congress at SRC floor. You never had anything with the Union.” - Akeju To Hessy

On the day of the congress, the fact that are undisputable
1  I was there at the congress
2. People that I influenced to come for the congress were there
3. I was the CBN PRO
4. There was a broadcast for CBNites to come for the congress.

The disputable fact you saying I don't have anything about the union. If I don't why will I be there?
Why will i influence people to be there?
Why will I even run for a post that gives me an opportunity to serve student from across science, clinical science, basic medical science, agric, veterinary Medicine Technology and even your own faculty. And you boast I don't have anything with the union? The fact speaks for itself.

If elected as the President of our SU, how would you tackle the issue of the SU constitution, especially with regards to eligibility and criteria for elections and other salient issues bothering on Union Funds between 2017 and 2019 during which there was no Union and the #200 SUG fees were still included in the School fees of both UG and PG students.

First of all as regards the Constitution, we are going to implore the services of our sound legal minds to bring the current review in line with the erstwhile constitutional provisions so that there's no dispute and lacuna in them, this means the provisions of the review will outdate the former provisions. It is the same way as it is done when there's a transition to civilian government, the constitution is mainly a reflection of the transition.

Also, we plan to make the students union constitution available to all through pdf file and publicity by all the media personalities and students in leadership positions on campus.

As regards the SUG fees, it is our first diplomatic approach with the management, the management has to show it's support for the Student Union by remitting and because it's also a question to the reputation and integrity of the management which is dear to their hearts. So prompt action will be taken immediately as regards it once elected. Thanks.

Thank you for staying tuned. Feel free to share with others and Kindly give full credit to WOUWO and Unibadan EFIWE if posted on your prestigious platforms.
