EFIWE NEWS: UI Student Wins Sponsorship Award, To Participate At The AAPG Conference In South Africa

The Premier University, University of Ibadan, added a feather to her cap by emerging the overall paper presentation winner at the Mini Conference of Nigeria Association of Petroleum Explorationists/Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society held at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE)/ Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) on the 7th-9th of June 2018.
The Winner of the Sponsorship award, a MSc student of University of Ibadan, Mr Idongesit Akwaowoh Micheal, alongside his Project Supervisor who also doubles as the Head of Department of Geology, University of Ibadan, Professor Ehniola are both expected to attend the Upcoming Conference of the American Association of Petroleum Explorationists (AAPG) in South Africa later this year.

His paper presentation which also is his Masters' Project topic, was titled "Assessment of Reservoir Units For Carbon(iv)oxide Sequestration in IDOA Field Niger Delta, Nigeria was reviewed and affirmed by a Board of Professionals as the overall best which indeed earned unprecedented accolades and recognition.

In a phone interview held with the Winner by a Correspondent of Rockite Press Organization, University of Ibadan, He expressed his utmost joy in winning the highly competed prize. In his words, He said "I had interest in CO2 sequestration even before I registered for my program. I remember when I resumed, I told my supervisor, Prof Ehinola about my interest in research on CO2 sequestration, he looked up publications and told me to read up. I did, this gave me a broad idea on the state of research on the subject matter".

"Later on, I applied for and got an internship position with Shell Petroleum Development Company where I had the opportunity to interact with professionals from different fields. This experience really had an impact in my career". He added. When asked what made him forge on despite the challenges associated with such research, he said, "What kept me going is the determination for success, I also had a good and really encouraging supervisor that kept pushing me. He had to keep on reminding us his students to submit papers after the research. My parents and Siblings were also source of encouragement and support for me".

While expressing his sincere gratitude and appreciation to management for their unflinching support, He equally thanked God for making the achievement come through. He said "I want to use this opportunity to thank Prof Ehinola for his immeasurable and unquantifiable support and all the Lecturers in Geology department for their support and advice all through the programme. I give special recognition to my parents for their support all through. Finally my greatest thanks and appreciation goes to the Almighty God Jehovah for his mercies and Favor".
