As part of its open-door policy and efforts to ensure peace on campus, Management of the University of Ibadan (UI) will on Tuesday, 10 April, 2018 meet major stakeholders, including parents, alumni, partners, friends, students as well as other interest groups with a view to intimating them with developments in the institution.
The meeting, under the Stakeholders Forum, will take place at the Trenchard Hall under the Chairmanship of a one-time Vice Chancellor, Prof. Omoniyi Adewoye by 10 in the morning , says a release made available by the Management.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka will be briefing the stakeholders on some of the challenges facing the institution and the Management's strategies towards overcoming them.
Though the agenda of the meeting remained sketchy as at the time of posting this, pundits are of the opinion that the meeting may not be unconnected with a slight increase in the school fees and the cost of hostel accommodation on campus, the development some students are planning to latch on to foment trouble in the guise of protest.
Years back, many stakeholders had described the Fourteen Thousands Naira (N14, 000) Hostel cost on campus as unrealistic in the face of today's economy, saying the only option was to increase the cost if the hostel arrangement would be sustained.
However, in a new fee regime released recently by the university, accommodation fee has been increased from N14, 000 to N30, 000 in almost all the undergraduate halls of residence except Alexander Brown hall which costs N40, 000.
This development and many other issues are likely to be the kernels of discussion at the Stakeholders Forum.
