A contemporary society in the 21st century can only thrive and filled with prosperity on the fundamental basis of synergy and collaborative efforts of different stakeholders of the economy. As important as the core professionals in the 'certificate syndrome' stereotyped formal education system are in our society, the socio-economic contributions of artisans with vocational skills cannot be underestimated in the developmental strides of an emerging or a developed economy. The countries of China, Malaysia, Australia and even the United States of America or United Kingdom are empirical test grounds for the assertion above.
In view of this, the community development expert and lawmaker representing the good people of Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency of Oyo State in the National Assembly, Hon (Dr) Olatoye Temitope Sugar has always given maximum support to the Artisans in Nigeria especially in Oyo State because of his passionate conviction that, the socioeconomic value-addition of Artisans to the economy far outweigh the corresponding compensation they get for services rendered to the society and perhaps the reason why an average Nigerian youth of today is not interested in acquiring vocational skills.
Hon Sugar, who is the Jagunmolu of Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) for almost two decades and a patron to many artisan groups and market-women associations has been sponsoring many activities within the groups and as well been partnering with vocational skills agencies through his pet-care organization named Olatoye Sugar Foundation (OSF) to train people especially the youth and women for economic sustenance and self reliance.
Another giant stride was the full presence of Olatoye Sugar Foundation at Hair dresser's association, Saki Zone in Oke-Ogun area of the state at their annual celebration held yesterday, Wednesday, 14th March, 2018 where OSF donated substantial cash gift to the association, offered free healthcare program and promised to always support the association's growth initiatives in Saki zone, Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
Mr Kola Ilori, a veteran journalist while presenting the gifts on behalf of the foundation also rendered the special message of the chairman of OSF, Hon (Dr) Olatoye Sugar that, the hairdresser's association with other artisan groups should be in unity so as to get what rightly belongs to them from government at all levels such as business funds/grants, legislative supports, low tax rates/holidays, well established but accessible markets and many more business friendly supports which are only feasible when the artisan groups are unified as a one indivisible groups.
Hon Sugar also implored them to mobilise their members, families, friends and associates to go all out for the registration for voter's card which is a civil responsibility and an instrument to elect a responsive and responsible government of prosperity for all at all elective positions in our national life.
