EFIWE NEWS: UI VC, Prof. Olayinka Congratulates Onifade Bello On His Win At FOPA Awards 2017, Assures Him That The Suspended Students' Union Will Be Restored!

UI VC, Prof. Idowu Olayinka

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan has congratulated the Former Speaker of the Students Representative Council,  Rt.Hon. Onifade Bello after He won the 'Most Outstanding Person In Student Leadership' award at Junior Chambers International  Fifteen Outstanding Persons' Award (FOPA) 2017 which held last night at Arts Theatre, University of Ibadan.

The Vice Chancellor also assured him that the suspension of the Students' Union will not remain for longer. He ( Prof. Olayinka) wrote;

Congratulations Onifade. A leader in position of authority can decide whether to be a politician or a statesman. One is looking for short term gains whether sustainable or not while the other is more interested in posterity. The  suspension of your much beloved Students' Union will not remain for longer than necessary.
Rt.Hon. Onifade Bello

I feel humbly honoured with this award as the "Most Outstanding Person in Student Leadership" in the "Fifteen Outstanding Persons Award - FOPA" of Junior Chamber International Nigeria, UI. I dedicate it to all Faculty Presidents, Hall Chairpersons and Student Leaders with whom we served the UISU and from whom I got invaluable pieces of advice and supports. Notably among whom are:

Óláyinká Joseph Adébàjò, Chiamaka Ogueri, Kazeem Akinwande, Adeoye Adejare, Abd'Aziiz Oladeji Oladejo, Iyanujesu Oluwatoyn, Oluwalayomi Oyewole, Hibrahim Ashiwaju Abayomi, Tomisin Morakinyo, Orimidara Joseph Awonusi, Damilola Akinsanya Damzy, Oyegunle Paul, Babalola Sideeq, Osasona A. Oluwatosin, Emmanuel Ojo Nifemi, Ola Heritage Oluwaseyi, Adedoyin Olalekan Taiwo, Ibukun Henry Adegbulugbe, Abeje Jude, Shalewa Muhammed, Ademola Oladoja, Grandcommander Oladokun Oluwasegun, James Ohepo Boniface Olofu, Akinmoju Olumide, Raheem Hammed, Oredola Ibrahim, to mention a few.

We had squabbles, disagreed to agree and even shouted  at times at one another in our meetings in the SRC Chamber; yet, it made us strong and successful at the end. Thanks all for being part of me during those nostalgic days.

In furtherance of objectivity, our period of service also enjoyed rapturous and good supports from the Students Affairs Division in salient issues bothering on students. I am very grateful for the supports.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Idowu Olayinka, sir the restoration of our Union is invaluable to the healthy existence of the University of Ibadan. Even though I read somewhere that you are not a politician, a stand I disagree with, I believe you have the political and administrative capacity to facilitate the restoration of a Union as old ad the Premier University in Nigeria. If politics, as defined by Prof O. B. C. Nwolise, is the "ultimate struggle for the control of minds and resources of men and nations," the process which led to your emergence as VC is a political one. Sir, you are an Oloselu in your own capacity.

Sir, the office of the VC is a powerful one; and as the Chairman of the University Senate, your authority has what it takes to #BringBackOurUnion. In actual fact, a University without a Union for students has alienated the voice of students and the universality in its existence may become illusory. It will be gladdening to have our Union back before you celebrate your third year in office. You can do it Sir and please just do it.

Alhamdulillah for where we are and there are better days ahead.
