Happy Sunday Esteemed Honourable members of the Celestial 6th Assembly.

I must sincerely appreciate our utmost concern and love for our union.

Our sitting yesterday, Saturday 10th December,2016 was very vital to the survival and  progressive movement of our union which before our sitting was in a state of comatose.

I came into the chamber yesterday nurturing some fears in my mind, having knowledge that human beings are motivated by interests and sentiments. But I was left awe as we allowed objectivity and our love for our union to be the force behind our submissions and deliberations.

I would like to inform us all that we have written our names in gold in the passage of time as we didn't allow fears and sentiments to close our eyes to the rot in our union. In the words of Harry S. Truman " Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better".

Truly, our courage yesterday will definitely change the face of the face of our union, laden with misappropriation of funds and nonchalant attitudes to constitutional provisions and duties by members of the executive committee and thereby reposition our union for the better in the collective interests of all UItes.

Esteemed Honourables, I feel we have done what is right for our union, I would implore us not to pay attentions to some criticisms that might come with it, we should keep in mind the words of Eleanor Roosevelt " Do what you feel in your heart to be right, for you will be criticised anyway". We should always remember that we cannot please everybody either good or bad. Herbert Swope once said " I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure, which is try to please everybody." Therefore if we are to be successful in our mandate as the legislative arm of the student union we have to put at the front, centre and back of pur minds that we cannot please everyone as interests differ. We should ordinarily know that those benefiting from the rot in our union and allies of the suspended executive members and others would never be pleased with our resolutions.

However, we should be  pleased with the joy and happiness that our submissions and resolutions brought to the vast numbers of UItes on hearing the news of the suspensions of the President, Vice-president and General Secretary of our union which they say was long overdue.

Let me also use this medium to reiterate that the suspension of the President,Vice President and General Secretary will never in any way have  damage on the day to day activities of the union and neither will it create void in the duty of the union to protect and shield members of the union(UItes) against unfriendly and harsh policies of the management.

Once again I appreciate you all for your continuous commitment and support in service to our union.

Thank you and God bless you all.

Signed
Rt Hon. Onifade Bello Abdurrahman
Speaker SRC
