EFIWE INTERVIEW: Beauty To Me Is Harmony Of Colours, Excellence Of Artistry And Originality - OAU Make-Up Artist/CEO Mydes-Touch Studio, Babalola Olamide


Meet Babalola Olamide Oluwaseun, a graduate of the Department of English, Obafemi Awolowo University and She's also the CEO/Head Make-up Artist of Mydes-Touch Studio/Training School, Ile-Ife.

Unibadan Efiwe had an interview with Olamide and below is what she had to say as She talks about Her Profession, Background and many more.

Can We meet You?

My names are Babalola Olamide Oluwaseun, am a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, English Department and the CEO /Head Makeup Artist, Mydes-Touch Studio/Training School.

How do You define Beauty?

Beauty to me is skin deep, beauty is creativity, Beauty is defined from individual's perception of it and that's why they say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Beauty to me is harmony of colours, excellence of artistry and originality.

How did your Profession as a Make-Up Artist Start??

My profession as a makeup artist started in 2015 after my service year, I had my first professional training when I was serving in Sango Ota,Ogun-State, even though before then I was already teaching myself through online materials, YouTube videos and the likes.

What are the works You have done so far??

I have done quite a number of works so far, ranging from bridal makeover for brides, party rockers make-up, Introduction makeup, editorial makeup, gele tying differnt styles and so on.

When You work for People, what is their reaction like?

People's reaction when I do their make-ups has been encouraging, infact basically most of the jobs I get has been through referrals, some clients even go as far as telling me am meant for lagos work and not ile-ife because I am actually ile-ife based.



What are the challenges You face?

Basically one of the challenges is capital, because make-up business is money demanding and also customer relation because different people would come your way and you should always be patient.

Who are your role models in the Beauty Industry?

My number one role model in the industry is Banke Meshida Lawal- Banks Bmpro, and also Oshewa beauty. Those are people I look up to in the industry.

What do You do during leisure?

During my leisure, If I am not doing makeup, I hangout with family and friends, gist and I also try to always upgrade my skills through consistent practice.

Back then when You were in school, How do You manage your time being a Student and also a Make-up artist?

When I was in school, I wasn't really into makeup. All I did back then was to sharpen brows for my roommates, infact I was known for that back then but no professional training then.

If You could have one Super Power, what would that be and why?? 

If I could have a super power, the power would be to enlarge my makeup business in terms of works and products,  and be one of the most sought after makeup artist all over Nigeria and beyond. 

I want to be the very best at what I do and the reason is that makeup is my passion and it gives me so much joy doing it, so making a huge success in it would also brings more happiness and recognition to my work and brand.

Are You into any relationship? 

I am in a serious relationship

Tell Us brief about your family Background?

I was born in the early '90's to the family of Mr and Mrs Babalola, am the first child and daughter, I have 3 siblings, 2 girls and a boy. My dad is a retired civil servant and my mum is a businesswoman.

As A Make-Up Artist, how do you balance your private life from your public life? 

Private life is private, Public is public I don't mix it up. One should not affect the other so it should be well balanced.

Where do You see yourself in the next 3 Years? 

In the next 3 years, Hmmmmm my dreams are so big!. I see myself realising my dreams as a well recognized brand in the makeup industry and also married with kids.

What words or advices do You have for youths whose dream is to be a Make-Up Artist?

My advice to youths that want to become make-up artist is that if it's their passion they should follow it strongly, it might not look like it at the onset but later on you would appreciate the rough days. 

Be prayerful, be consistent and practice more. Don't limit yourself and believe in your dreams.
